Affirmative Action - Summary

Affirmative Action uses inclusive measures to help ensure equal opportunity for under represented people, primarily women and people of color, in areas that have been traditionally denied to them:
Jobs, Educational institutions, & Economic opportunities.

Affirmative Action permits the use of racial & gender-conscious measures to bring about equality of opportunity.

KCCJ, in striving to fulfill its mission, must provide accurate information, create an atmosphere for civic & civil discussion and facilitate a process for action. It must also seek to tone down the intense level of discord surrounding the issue of affirmative action and guide the debate to where we are all able to civilly discuss the affirmative action policies and programs.

Affirmative action is the most powerful instrument in the fight against gender and racial bias. It benefits everyone, not just the immediate beneficiaries. KCCJ supports the expansion of affirmative action programs to actively include all persons who have been historically subordinated or denied opportunity & access.

KCCJ prefers realistic goals & timetables as opposed to quotas except in rare, short-term instances. KCCJ calls upon leaders to de-politicize the national debate on affirmative action & advocate constructive conversation on improving affirmative action.
