Confederate Flag - Summary The Confederate Flag remains a barrier to building a more inclusive and just nation. The Confederate Flag is a symbol of the Confederate States of America; although the Civil War ended 137 years ago, the legacy of slavery remains today. The Confederate Flag has additional and recent negative connotations: The Anti Defamation League (ADL) states that the Confederate Flag generates deep meaning, intent and significance in a compact, immediately recognizable form and is one of the universal building blocks of the vocabulary of racist imagery. Mississippi remasins the only state to flagrantly display the Confederate Flag. A flag of the United States should be a symbol of unity and admiration, not incite tension and strife. KCCJ calls for the removal of the Confederate Flag from all public properties with allowances for its usage in appropriate historical and educational contexts. KCCJ calls for all citizens to denounce usage of the Confederate Flag as offensive in its nature. | all issues | full statement | blog
